Gajorer Halua a.k.a. Gajar ka halwa, gajrela or gajar pak is a carrot-based delicacy from Punjab. It is one of the most popular desserts mainly in the India, Pakistan and Bangladesh but with time it has gained popularity in the western countries as well.
The main ingredients of gajorer halua are grated carrots, milk, sugar, cardamom and sometimes khoya is also added. It is cooked in ghee by stirring regularly and often served with a garnish of almonds and pistachios.
Halwa originated in the Middle-East in the 13th century and came to India via Persia, although there are different stories available regarding the origin. There are many variations of halwa available across India, but surely Gajorer Halua is the most popular one.
