Shinni

Shinni is a prasad offered to Lord Vishnu during Satyanarayan Puja. This puja was mentioned in Skanda Purana and is mostly performed during full moon. Satyanarayan Katha or Story describes how Lord Narayana vows to aid the devotees in Kali Yug.


The main ingredients of Shinni are flour, milk, sugar and banana. It can be garnished with a variety of dried fruits, cashew nuts and raisins. It is a wholesome food with great nutritional values.


Shinni is very popular in the states of Bengal and Odisha. Although it is closely associated with Satyanarayan Puja, but it is consumed throughout the year because it is tasty, nutritious, easy to prepare and ingredients are simple and easily available.
